Instructions
- Wash oranges thoroughly and slice into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Try to keep slices uniform.
- In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Add orange slices to the simmering syrup, ensuring they are mostly submerged. Simmer gently for 1 hour, or until translucent and tender, turning occasionally.
- Remove orange slices with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool completely (4-6 hours or overnight).
- Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, use a double boiler.
- Dip each dry orange slice halfway or completely into the melted chocolate. Add sprinkles, nuts, or sea salt if desired.
- Place dipped slices back on the wire rack to let the chocolate set. Once hardened, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
Notes
For a more intense orange flavor, use blood oranges. You can also experiment with different types of chocolate and toppings.
