Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 2 Large Oranges
  • 4 cups Granulated Sugar
  • 2 cups Water
  • 1 cup Semi-sweet Chocolate Chips Or dark chocolate, milk chocolate, or your preferred type
  • 1-2 tablespoons Optional: Sprinkles
  • 1/4 cup Optional: Chopped Nuts
  • 1/2 teaspoon Optional: Sea Salt

Equipment

  • Medium saucepan
  • Sharp knife
  • Wire rack
  • Microwave-safe bowl or double boiler
  • Slotted spoon

Method

Instructions
  1. Wash oranges thoroughly and slice into 1/4-inch thick rounds. Try to keep slices uniform.
  2. In a saucepan, combine sugar and water. Bring to a boil, stirring until sugar dissolves. Reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes.
  3. Add orange slices to the simmering syrup, ensuring they are mostly submerged. Simmer gently for 1 hour, or until translucent and tender, turning occasionally.
  4. Remove orange slices with a slotted spoon and place on a wire rack to cool completely (4-6 hours or overnight).
  5. Melt chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth. Alternatively, use a double boiler.
  6. Dip each dry orange slice halfway or completely into the melted chocolate. Add sprinkles, nuts, or sea salt if desired.
  7. Place dipped slices back on the wire rack to let the chocolate set. Once hardened, store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.

Notes

For a more intense orange flavor, use blood oranges. You can also experiment with different types of chocolate and toppings.
