Main Ingredients
  • 6 medium Granny Smith Apples Peeled, cored, and sliced 1/4-inch thick
  • 3 4 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 4 cup Packed Light Brown Sugar
  • 2 tablespoons All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1 2 teaspoon Ground Nutmeg
  • 1 4 teaspoon Ground Allspice
  • 1 4 cup Lemon Juice
  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Cut into small pieces
  • 1 9-inch Pie Crust Your favorite recipe or store-bought

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • 9-inch pie plate
  • Peeler
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons

Method

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Gently toss to coat the apples evenly.
  3. Stir in the lemon juice. This helps prevent the apples from browning and adds a bright flavor.
  4. Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch pie plate.
  5. Dot the top of the apple mixture with the small pieces of butter.
  6. Carefully place the top crust over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal. Cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  7. Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
  8. Let cool completely before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, use a combination of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples. You can also add a tablespoon of apple cider for extra moisture and flavor. Feel free to adjust the spices to your liking.
