- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a large bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and allspice. Gently toss to coat the apples evenly.
- Stir in the lemon juice. This helps prevent the apples from browning and adds a bright flavor.
- Pour the apple mixture into a 9-inch pie plate.
- Dot the top of the apple mixture with the small pieces of butter.
- Carefully place the top crust over the filling. Crimp the edges to seal. Cut several slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
- Let cool completely before serving.
Notes
For a richer flavor, use a combination of Granny Smith and Honeycrisp apples. You can also add a tablespoon of apple cider for extra moisture and flavor. Feel free to adjust the spices to your liking.
