Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 3/4 cups Granulated sugar
  • ¾ cup Unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • ½ cup Vegetable oil
  • 2 Eggs large
  • 2 teaspoons Vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Boiling water

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Electric Mixer (handheld or stand)
  • Rubber spatula

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add the buttermilk, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2 minutes.
  4. Gradually add the boiling water to the batter while mixing on low speed. The batter will be thin.
  5. Pour batter into the prepared pan and spread evenly.
  6. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before inverting onto a wire rack to cool completely.
  8. Once cooled, frost with your favorite frosting and enjoy!

Notes

For an even richer flavor, use dark cocoa powder. You can also add chocolate chips or nuts to the batter before baking.
