Instructions
- Cook pasta according to package directions in a large pot of salted boiling water. Reserve about 1/2 cup of pasta water before draining.
- While pasta cooks, heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using); cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Avoid burning the garlic.
- Add crushed tomatoes, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Bring to a simmer and cook for 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until slightly thickened.
- Add drained pasta to the skillet with the sauce. Toss to coat evenly. Add reserved pasta water if sauce is too thick.
- Remove from heat and stir in Parmesan cheese and butter. The heat from the pasta will melt the butter, creating a creamy sauce.
- Garnish with fresh basil (if using) and serve immediately. Enjoy!
Notes
Feel free to add other vegetables like spinach, mushrooms, or zucchini during the last few minutes of cooking the sauce. You can also experiment with different cheeses or herbs to customize the dish to your liking. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
