  • 1 loaf (16 ounces) Crusty bread, cubed and dried overnight
  • 1 cup Celery, finely chopped
  • 1 cup Onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup Butter
  • 1 teaspoon Sage
  • 1 teaspoon Poultry seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon Thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 cup Chicken broth Or vegetable broth for vegetarian option
  • 1/2 cup Chopped fresh parsley Optional
  • 1/2 cup Cranberries (fresh or dried) Optional

Method
 

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add celery and onion and cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  3. Stir in sage, poultry seasoning, thyme, pepper, and salt. Cook for 1 minute more, stirring constantly.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the dried bread cubes, celery-onion mixture, and chicken broth. Gently toss to combine, ensuring the bread is moistened. Let it sit for about 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
  5. If using, stir in fresh parsley and cranberries.
  6. Transfer the stuffing mixture to a greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
  7. Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and heated through. If the top starts to brown too quickly, loosely cover with foil.

Notes

For a richer stuffing, use homemade chicken broth. You can also add other vegetables like mushrooms or sausage.
